Market Place St Paul’s is a vibrant food hall and events destination set in the very heart of the City of London, just steps away from the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral. Inside, visitors discover a lively mix of nine independent street food traders, a central bar, a self-serve soft ice cream station and a range of entertainment features including pool tables and live DJ sets. It’s a space designed to cater for every taste and occasion, from quick lunches and after-work drinks to late-night gatherings.
To match this energy, the lighting needed to do more than simply illuminate the space. Working in close collaboration with Market Place, Illuma advised on a carefully considered blend of general and feature lighting. The objective was to highlight focal points, introduce pools of light that add warmth and intimacy, and ensure a balance between practicality and ambience. The end result is a lighting scheme that not only enhances the customer experience but also reinforces the venue’s unique character and atmosphere.
Illuma’s Lumapar lighting transforms the seating area into a warm, welcoming space with its soft 2700K glow, perfect for encouraging guests to relax and stay longer. The integrated honeycomb louvre minimises glare, delivering a more comfortable, visually pleasing ambience that enhances the dining experience from the first sip to the last bite.
This effect is beautifully complemented by the 2ube pendant lights, which cast gentle pools of illumination over each individual table. Incorporating dim-to-warm technology, these pendants deliver a bright 3000K at full output and gradually soften to a cosy 2000K when dimmed. This feature gives Market Place the ability to adapt the atmosphere with ease, whether creating a lively, energetic setting during the day or a more intimate, inviting mood for evening service and late-night events.
Linear runs of 1-circuit track have been designed to provide maximum flexibility, enabling the lighting layout to adapt effortlessly to any future changes in the restaurant’s arrangement. The adjustable fittings ensure that the lighting solution can always be tailored to suit evolving needs and layouts.
By combining versatility, performance and cost-effectiveness, this solution provides Market Place St Paul’s with a lighting system that delivers both immediate impact and long-term value. It not only meets the demands of today but is also ready to adapt to tomorrow, ensuring the venue remains a welcoming, atmospheric and functional destination for years to come.
