Nick Turnbull-Ross, Quality Manager at Illuma is retiring after 28 years at Illuma.
It was nearly 28 years ago on the 2nd of November 1992 when Nick walked through the doors of Illuma’s then new Shepshed factory for the first time. After 8 years in the foundry industry and 2 years in the glass industry his move into lighting as a Quality Manager was always going to be an interesting venture. Nick's original plan was only to stop at Illuma for 6 or so years, add to his skills and then move on. 28 years later, he is now retiring from Illuma having become one of the company's most valued and experienced members of staff.
One of Nick's first targets when he joined Illuma back in 1992 was to obtain quality certification (BS5750) and develop systems and procedures for the company to operate in accordance with. In true 'Nick Fashion' this was achieved within 12 months and everyone at Illuma was then presented with an Illuma tee shirt bearing the BSI logo and given a small financial reward. Many of the systems and procedures which Nick put in place in his early years are still well embedded in the company to this day.
In 2007 Nick moved with Illuma to Castle Donington, where he witnessed some of the biggest lighting industry changes during his 28 year service. The most notable change being the transition from more traditional lamp sources such as; R60, R80, PAR30, PAR20, Metal halide and compact fluorescents etc… to the era of LED lighting.
In his own words, Nick had this to say about his retirement:
‘Although a lot has changed during my 28 years of service, including a change of factory, one thing has remained a constant, the “spirit” of Illuma. The spirit resides in the people that work there. Many have worked for Illuma for over 30 years. Although the company has had its “ups and downs” the camaraderie, teamwork, support for one another and overall friendships that exists within Illuma have made it a great place to work and I’m proud to have been part of that team for so long.
I wish my successor, friends, colleagues, and owners at Illuma a continued successful and most importantly, enjoyable future.’ – Nick Turnbull-Ross
Nick is looking forward to his retirement and has several hobbies that are sure to keep him busy. These include playing the guitar, sailing, and spending quality time with his wife and family.
Labelled a 'true gentleman' by his colleagues due to his kind nature and strong work ethic, Nick has been an integrable member of the Illuma team for over two decades, making the role his own and constantly setting extremely high standards. His invaluable experience and constant smile will be sorely missed by all at Illuma.
The entire Illuma team would like to wish Nick all the best for the future and thank him for his outstanding service and valued contribution.
